History of Purdue Model
The Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture (PERA) and associated methodology were developed by Theodore J. Williams in the Purdue Laboratory for Applied Industrial Control (PLAIC) of Purdue University.. Theodore Joseph Williams (1923 – April 27, 2013) was an American engineer and Professor of Engineering at Purdue University.
Even though, PERA was first developed by PLAIC of Purdue University in December 1990 and it was published one year later.
In its first iteration, there were three components:
- Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture
- Purdue Reference Model
- Purdue Implementation Procedures Manual
The model evolved over time to incorporate guidelines for the physical architecture of systems and to introduce the six network levels of the environment, which represent the many technologies and systems found at each level.
